No, I'm not talking about setting October free from the pumpkin-everything craze!
It's October 20th and I'm just now getting around to doing some things I planned to do October 1st. I had proclaimed October the month of "Operation: Get it Together." I was drained after loosing my grandmother at the end of September on top of a busy few months.
Lots of plans started to take shape. I was joining some friends at work to go meatless for the month. I had appointments and engagements scheduled to take care of me: a massage, dentist and doctor appointments, homemade meals, new gym, new books, and more awaited me! I was all like "YAY, October...."
Then the floods came. Things were canceled. Basic functions like driving around town and the lack of clean water interrupted the flow of life. October was turning into a downer and I wanted to break up with it.
Now it's "Operation: Take Back October!" I'm celebrating the little things today and am taking back the October I planned! It took some willpower, but I actually ate the lunch of leftovers that I brought to eat yesterday. I often prepare a lunch and then something happens when it passes through the threshold of work and the dreaded work refrigerator. It just doesn't appeal to me. Then Five Guys appeals to me and I need to get out of the office and it's all over.
I resisted the strong temptation to order Miyo's and I heated up my homemade food instead. It was tasty, healthy, filling and economical. (Check Mark!) Yay, Me! To reward myself, I went to my car for 20 minutes and read the first chapter of a book I've been carrying around with me for weeks. (Check Mark!) The book is funny and I'm excited to dive in to it even more.
You may be seeing flying pigs or hell freezing over, but on top of the lunch and the one-chapter of reading, I PACKED A GYM BAG! That's right, I have an appointment tonight with a new gym.
What do you do when things get off track? How are you celebrating October?
